From Italy to Leeuwarden

Meet Luca. Luca is only 23 years old and already has five years of experience in the aviation industry. He currently works as an Aircraft Structure Technician on F-35 Fighter Jets in Leeuwarden. He is originally from Italy, but moved to the Netherlands for this unique opportunity. We spoke with him about his project and his experience with People with Skills.

How did Luca end up at People with Skills?

Luca came across the vacancy for the F-35 project on LinkedIn. A recommendation from a friend, who had heard good things about People with Skills, gave him the final push to apply. But what was the deciding factor? "To be honest, it was the opportunity itself," says Luca. "The offer was just right."

Luca on the support provided by People with Skills

Luca describes the support provided by People with Skills as "patient and humane." He emphasizes the exceptional help he received from his former contact person and manager:

Maurice was an exceptional manager. He frequently went above and beyond to make us feel supported and heard. For instance, he lent us his car when we were moving. I appreciate a man with values.

This flexibility is a big plus for Luca. "People with Skills can support us better than others. They are flexible and, for example, arranged a company car and electric bikes for colleagues."

Luca on the highlights and challenges of his work

An absolute highlight was reaching an important milestone. "I think completing the first fighter jet here in Leeuwarden was a highlight," he says proudly. "And also writing technical documents for the people who come after us, so that they can save time."

But the job also has its challenges. The start of his training in Woensdrecht wasn't always easy. "My experience there was mixed, to be honest," Luca admits. He found it difficult to connect with the employees there. "But People with Skills tried to make it better for us." Fortunately, the training was only temporary, and he now feels completely at home in Leeuwarden.

A reliable partner

Would he recommend People with Skills to others? "Absolutely," Luca says without hesitation. "I've heard a lot of bad stories about other companies, such as not paying sick leave or leaving people homeless. I've never seen that here. It's just a reliable company. When you work, you get support and you know that everything will be okay."

We thank Luca for sharing his story and wish him every success with his important work on the F-35 project.
